This historic colonial mansion is one of the oldest houses in Cartagena, with foundations dating back to the beginnings of the city in 1585. It belonged to Don Manuel de Anguiano, a hero in the War for Independence from Spain, since 1804. The Pombo family continued ownership for 150 years, making sure the house’s colonial architectural features were preserved. Today, the stone walls, wooden beams, and general grandeur of this aristocratic mansion remain, with the addition of modern comforts.
It’s located in the historic center and has stunning architecture. The elegant courtyards and luxe interiors lend to a super romantic ambiance, ideal for people who want to be extra at their wedding. Its location next to the Cathedral and the State Capitol makes it seem like it was built solely for the purpose of facilitating holy matrimony.
The rooftop terrace has views for days – you can see all of Cartagena’s skyline and the Caribbean. It’s also a great spot for cocktail hour during sunset. There is a rooftop pool, balconies, and several courtyards with lush gardens, providing that main character settings for ceremonies, or even receptions. A lot of people do their nuptials in the central courtyard, where there’s a fountain and tropical plants, and the grand hall is the spot for hosting receptions.
Casa Pombo offers gourmet catering services with customizable menus, and has an event-planning team.

Although this hotel is located inside of a restored 17th-century convent, the rooms have more of a modern feel than most of Cartagena’s other colonial-style hotels.
The Sofitel has a variety of event spaces, including ballrooms, salons, outdoor areas, and the famed 1621 restaurant. If you Google image “wedding in Cartagena,” you’ll see a bunch of outrageously beautiful pictures of the ballroom here.
Originally built in 1621, the building served as the Convent of the Poor Clares. It has been meticulously restored and transformed into a luxurious hotel while preserving its historical architecture and charm.
This place is stunning, with high ceilings, arched doorways, and other beautifully preserved historical elements. The property has that Colombian biophilic design, with tropical gardens and colonial-style courtyards in the center and around the interior of the property, providing the backdrop for an idyllic wedding.
The rooftop terrace has views of the skyline and the water, and there is an on-site luxury spa.

Founded in the early 17th century, the Convento de la Popa was originally built by Augustinian monks and has undergone various restorations over the centuries. The convent features beautiful colonial architecture with a chapel, cloister, and gardens, and offers several spaces for ceremonies and receptions, including the chapel and outdoor courtyards.
Since this is not a hotel, you will most likely need the help of a wedding planner to organize a wedding here, if you are not from Colombia, but you can try contacting the venue directly or visit local tourism websites.
Capacity: Up to 200 guests
Average Room Price: NA
Amenities: Historic convent, panoramic views
Style and Ambiance: Historic and scenic
Reviews: Renowned for stunning views
Well known as “the most gorgeous house in Cartagena” and the “Versailles of Cartagena,” Relais & Châteaux member boutique hotel, Casa Pestagua was originally built for the Count of Pestagua. This 18th-century mansion blends colonial charm and modern luxury.
It comes with the obligatory architectural features: high ceilings, elegant arches, and antique furnishings, as well as courtyards and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views. It has a spa, a swimming pool, and a fine dining restaurant. If you have your reception here, I advise you rent (or you’ll probably have to buy) woven hanging lamps for this whimsical bohemian vibe.
Casa Pestagua is one of the most in-demand wedding venues in Cartagena so keep that in mind if you’ve got your eye on it, and plan ahead.
Capacity: Up to 200 guests
Average Room Price: $300-$650 per night in March

The Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa is another staple of Cartagena. It’s a super luxurious hotel housed in a beautifully restored convent from the 17th century, in a happening square, with a 360-degree view of the city and the sea. This place nails it when it comes to creating modern luxury without sacrificing colonial charm.
The rooms are luxurious, the ballrooms are elegant, and the rooftop terrace is supreme. Rooms are spacious and plush, with marble bathrooms and high-end finishes. The ballrooms are grand, especially La Capilla, a former chapel that now serves as a show-stopping event space. There are also multiple salons and a rooftop pool area that can be used for pre-wedding gatherings or recovery brunches.

Another non-hotel venue, the Palacio de la Inquisición, is a unique and memorable venue to get married in, as long as you can get past the potential bad luck that you might get from tying the knot in a place that served as the headquarters for the Spanish Inquisition in Cartagena. Basically, this venue is for non-superstitious history buffs or over-the-top divas (💅 We see you, and we’re not judging!).
Today, the Palacio de la Inquisición functions as a museum, showcasing the history of the Inquisition and the colonial period. The colonial architecture, grand interiors, and beautiful courtyards make for a great backdrop for your special day, and the palace’s courtyards and halls can be utilized.
To arrange a wedding at this location, you would typically need to coordinate with local event planners or the venue’s administrative office to discuss availability, pricing, and any specific requirements or permits needed for hosting an event at this historic site. In other words, it’s complicated. You’ll need a wedding planner to help you.
Capacity: Up to 200 guests
Average Room Price: No rooms
Amenities: Historic palace, courtyards
Style and Ambiance: Historic and grand
Reviews: 3/5 Known for unique history
Club de Pesca is an iconic waterfront venue in Cartagena situated in the Manga neighborhood outside of the walled city. Rather than a hotel, it’s a restaurant is nestled within the historic Fuerte San Sebastián del Pastelillo, with panoramic views of Cartagena Bay and the skyline. The combo maritime-ambiance-meets-colonial-architecture makes it a pretty captivating choice for a wedding venue.
The venue features versatile spaces, including open-air seating on the pier and large outdoor areas. Your backdrop, should you choose Club de Pesca, is luxury yachts and historic walls – basically an ultra-romantic atmosphere that says “love is in the air.” Club de Pesca has live music on weekend nights, to add to the celebratory mood, with anything from jazz to salsa.
Given its popularity and prime location, securing Club de Pesca for your wedding will require advance planning and some help.
Capacity: Up to 200 guests (maybe 300 if you get a good wedding planner)
Average Room Price: No rooms here!
Amenities: Waterfront views, historic architecture, versatile event spaces, live music on weekends.
Style and Ambiance: Maritime elegance with colonial charm
Reviews: 4.0/5 Highly praised for its scenic location, exceptional cuisine, and vibrant atmosphere
Okay, so these 2 are a little less traditional venues and more really amazing hotels where you can have your wedding for free. This is where I did my wedding and there was no aisle to walk down and no church bells, but that’s exactly how I wanted it. The hotel manager let me do whatever I wanted, so it was pretty great. And did I mention that it was free?
They’re both luxury boutique hotels located in the heart of Cartagena’s historic center, with super-modern design, but that celebrate Colombian culture with locally inspired decor and Colombian art throughout the properties.
At my wedding, we had almost all of our 60 guests stay between the two hotels. They’re sister hotels and right next door to each other. I like Colegio more, and Porvenir wasn’t finished at the time, so we stayed at Colegio, and that’s where all the festivities happened.
During the 3 days we were in Cartagena, we hung out on the rooftop and around the hotel. There’s a pool and bar on the rooftop and you can have the downstairs staff come up to bartend whenever you want. We actually stocked the bar ourselves, so that made it even cheaper. You can Rappi your order for like $1 and to stock with drinks and snacks for 60 people for the whole 3 days – it was like $300, and you can see my entire wedding price breakdown in this article here, or an overview below:

The day of, we did the ceremony on the rooftop. We had a band, and ordered appetizers and drinks from downstairs and the hotel staffed the event for us for free. The rooftop is not huge. Sixty people definitely filled it up and we actually had a few people floating on flamingos that I brought from home during the ceremony. Again, I wanted it super casual like that so if that’s not your style then you probably won’t like this option.
Casona del Colegio
Capacity: 13 rooms at Colegio, 13 at Porvenir, and a I would consider my 60-person wedding on the rooftop of Colegio the max
Average Room Price: $150-375 per night in March
Amenities: Beautiful rooftop with a pool, bar, and spa services, balconies with views of the walled city, on-site restaurant
Style and Ambiance: Colonial architecture with 21st-century Colombian craftsmanship, with a sophisticated and modern interior
Reviews: 9.4 & 9.6 – Guests appreciate the hotel’s combination of historic charm and modern amenities, as well as the attentive service and convenient location near Cartagena’s attractions. The rooftop pool and spa services are particularly highlighted for enhancing the overall guest experience.
Check out Casona del Colegio here.
Casona del Porvenir
Capacity: 26 rooms across both hotels, with a selection of rooms including Superior, Luxury, Junior Suites, and Suites
Average Room Price: $119 at Casona del Colegio & $220 at Casona del Porvenir

Candé is one of Cartagena’s most beloved fine-dining restaurants, tucked away inside a restored colonial home in the heart of the historic walled city—exactly where you want to be if you’re after atmosphere. This was location #2 for my wedding, where we ate dinner.
Normally you have to pay $25,000 and rent out the entire restaurant but somehow my wedding planner got them to let us rent the pink room in the back. I really wanted the front middle part of the restaurant, where the stage is, but in the end, this is what we could afford, and it was pretty amazing.
Candé is romantic, authentically Cartagenero and has live music and dance performances, lush tropical décor, and a menu that celebrates Afro-Caribbean flavors using traditional techniques and local ingredients. While some venues try to “modernize” the experience, Candé leans into Cartagena’s roots—in the best way.
Capacity: Best suited for small-to-medium groups. Private dining spaces are available; inquire directly for full buyouts.
Average Price per Person: ~$60–$80 for a full multi-course experience, more for private events or full-venue rentals
Ambiance and Style: Intimate, colonial, and colorful—think candlelight, live drumming, and a homey elegance that’s hard to fake
Reviews: 4.5/5 Guests consistently rave about the immersive cultural experience and standout service
👉 Check out Candé here.
Hyatt Regency Cartagena is considered a luxurious oceanfront hotel and is located in the Bocagrande district, which has views of the historic center but is not in it.
The hotel features 380 spacious guestrooms, including 28 suites, designed with modern amenities and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide panoramic views of either the sea or city. For events and weddings, Hyatt Regency Cartagena offers 1,200 square meters of flexible event space across nine venues, including the grand Regency Ballroom, accommodating up to 540 guests in a theater-style setup.
I don’t like the Bocagrande area or hotels over there. I think that without the historic aspect, Cartagena quickly begins to look and feel like a cheap Miami, but a lot of people don’t agree with me, so make sure you check it out for yourself.
Capacity: The Regency Ballroom can host up to 540 guests in a theater-style arrangement, making it suitable for large weddings and events.
Average Room Price: Starting at $170 per night
Amenities: Multiple infinity pools, including an adults-only pool with panoramic views, a full-service spa, fitness center, on-site dining options such as Kokaú and Amacagua, and a Regency Club Lounge for guests staying in club-level rooms.
Style and Ambiance: Sterile, contemporary design with modern Colombian architecture and interiors
Reviews: 9.1/10 Guests have praised the hotel’s cleanliness, comfort, and excellent location
Casa Las Marías is a colonial mansion tucked within the walled city of Cartagena, a prime location that oozes history, charm, and the kind of romance you can’t replicate outside this UNESCO-protected zone. It’s not a traditional hotel, but rather a private residence available for exclusive rentals and events, including weddings. That means if you’re dreaming of a celebration that feels like your own Spanish-style estate weekend, this is your place.
Beyond its architectural grandeur, the mansion holds historical importance. In May 1830, Simón Bolívar – the man who liberated Latin America from Spain- stayed here during his final visit to Cartagena before his death in Santa Marta. Today, the Casa serves as an alternate headquarters for Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosting distinguished guests and official events.
The house itself features beautiful balconies, a central, lush courtyard with a pool, high ceilings, and original colonial finishes. There’s a calm elegance to the property, and its intimate size makes it a great fit for weddings that want to feel both stylish and personal. It’s especially popular with couples who want to host multi-day events with friends and family under one historic (and very photogenic) roof.
Capacity: Up to 100 guests
Average Room Price: The Entire house rents for between $3,000 – $5,000 USD per night, and this includes 7 bedrooms with en-suite baths
Amenities: Swimming pool, jacuzzi, rooftop terrace with panoramic city views, elegant living areas, 7 en-suite bedrooms, full kitchen, and staff for catering and service coordination
Style and Ambiance: Romantic colonial luxury with a secluded, estate-like feel – like having your own private finca in the heart of Cartagena
Reviews: Highly praised by past guests and wedding planners for its charm, location, and unique sense of intimacy; often described as a “dream venue” for destination weddings
Casa Estrella is a 19th-century colonial villa nestled within Cartagena’s historic walled city, offering an authentic and intimate setting for weddings and events. Its central courtyard features a pool that can be transformed into a dance floor, and the rooftop terrace provides panoramic views, ideal for cocktail receptions and photo opportunities. The villa’s architecture showcases traditional wooden beams and archways, exuding a romantic ambiance.
Capacity: Accommodates weddings and events for 20 to 80 guests, providing an intimate atmosphere.
Average Room Price: Room rates are not publicly listed; it’s recommended to contact the property directly for detailed pricing information.
Amenities: The villa offers 9 en-suite bedrooms, an outdoor swimming pool, a solarium, a jacuzzi, and a rooftop terrace with city views.
Style and Ambiance: Colonial charm and historic architecture, featuring wooden beams, archways, and a central courtyard – creating a romantic and timeless setting.
Reviews: 9.1/10 on Booking.com, based on 428 guest reviews. Guests have praised the villa’s central location, attentive staff, and well-preserved décor, highlighting the beautiful library and rooftop pool.
Okay, this one is more of a traditional wedding venue—but still totally unique and set in the heart of Cartagena’s coolest neighborhood, Getsemaní. Casa Santos de Piedra is a restored colonial mansion with gorgeous stone walls, high ceilings, and that perfect old-world charm. It’s not a hotel, so you won’t get rooms included, but it is located directly across the street from Hotel Capellán, which makes logistics super easy if you’re hosting a destination wedding.
The vibe is classic Cartagena—romantic, historic, and slightly dramatic in the best way. You can rent the whole house for your event, and they’ll work with you (or your planner) to help coordinate catering, decor, music, etc. The space is big enough for 200+ guests but still feels intimate thanks to the central courtyard and colonial layout.
We love the natural light and historic character. I especially liked that it’s in Getsemaní, where your guests can spill out after the wedding and explore the buzzy local scene – bars, plazas, murals, and music.
Capacity: Up to 250 seated for banquets, 200 for receptions
Average Price: $6,300 to rent for an event
Amenities: Grand colonial architecture, open courtyard, high ceilings, proximity to Hotel Capellán for guest lodging
Style and Ambiance: Timeless Cartagena vibes – stone walls, rustic elegance, candlelit arches, and Caribbean magic
Reviews: 4.8/5 on Google, based on 76 reviews | Loved by couples for its location, flexibility, and that blend of romance-meets-realness.
This one feels like Cartagena’s best-kept secret. Casa Cordoba Cabal is a private colonial mansion turned event venue located right off Plaza de San Pedro Claver, and it’s honestly hard to beat when it comes to views and atmosphere. You get front-row seats to one of the prettiest churches in the city, and at night, the plaza glows with candlelight and street performers. It’s giving “magical realism” in the best way.
The house itself is classic Cartagena—arched doorways, leafy courtyards, exposed stone, and terracotta tiles. There’s a beautiful rooftop with views of the domes and sea, and you can have the ceremony in the open-air courtyard or on the upper terrace depending on your vibe. It’s ideal for couples who want something elegant, intimate, and very Cartagena without it feeling too commercial or overdone.
It’s not a hotel, but it’s just steps from several great ones like Charleston Santa Teresa, Casa San Agustín, and Hotel Movich, so your guests will be perfectly situated.
Capacity: 80–100 comfortably (seated), up to 120 for a standing/cocktail-style event
Average Price: Around $3,000–$4,500 for the full venue rental depending on season and day of week
Amenities: Rooftop terrace, interior courtyard, colonial architecture, central location in Cartagena’s historic center
Style and Ambiance: Elegant, historic, and slightly mysterious—like a romantic hideaway in the middle of the city
Reviews: 4.7/5 on TripAdvisor, based on 110 reviews | Popular among couples and planners for its unbeatable location, flexible layout, and the way it captures Cartagena’s charm without needing much extra decor.

Okay, so this one isn’t technically a wedding venue or a hotel—but hear me out. It’s one of the most iconic places to grab a drink in Cartagena, and it sits literally on top of the old city wall. It’s casual, super scenic, and surprisingly affordable for what you get and the views are insane—Caribbean Sea on one side, city skyline on the other, and cannons lining the edges.
If you want something relaxed but atmospheric, this is the move. Just know it’s not private, so it works best as a casual gathering spot vs. a formal wedding venue.
Capacity: It’s a public venue, but we comfortably took over a section with about 40 people
Average Room Price: No rooms, but cocktails around $8–12; snack plates $6–15 USD
Amenities: Open-air seating on the historic wall, ocean views, live music and DJs on weekends, full bar and food service
Style and Ambiance: Historic fortress turned lounge—very Cartagena chic. Think lanterns, sea breeze, and a bit of a scene.
Reviews: 4.6/5 on Google, based on 4,386 reviews | People love the views, ambiance, and strong drinks. Best spot in town for a sunset hang.
This is one of those boutique hotels that feels more like a private villa than a hotel—and that’s exactly what makes it so perfect for a wedding. It’s tucked inside Cartagena’s walled city, right in the heart of everything, but once you step inside, it feels like this calm, dreamy little sanctuary. It’s got that romantic courtyard vibe, rooftop views, and tons of Colombian character.
I didn’t get married here, but I visited for a site tour and honestly considered it. The staff is next level—they’re super accommodating and totally open to events. You can rent out the entire hotel and basically have it all to yourself (if you’ve got the plata), which makes it ideal for a smaller, more intimate wedding where everyone can stay together under one roof.
The rooftop is the real draw—it’s lush and cozy, with views of the city and enough space for a ceremony or cocktail-style reception. There’s also a little pool up there, so your post-ceremony flamingo float dreams are still totally in play.
They’ll help you coordinate catering, décor, music, whatever you want—but it still has that laid-back Cartagena feel. It’s a great option if you want something stylish and romantic but not overly polished or fussy.
Capacity: 7 rooms total, sleeps about 14–16 guests, rooftop fits 40 for a standing reception
Average Room Price: $200–450 per night in high season
Amenities: Rooftop terrace with pool and garden, beautiful colonial courtyard, concierge services, breakfast included
Style and Ambiance: Spanish colonial elegance with boho-luxury touches, handmade Colombian furniture and textiles throughout
Reviews: 9.4 on Booking – guests rave about the attention to detail, stunning design, and warm, personalized service
If you’re into the idea of renting a full colonial mansion for your wedding crew, Casa Real might be your dream scenario. This one’s not a hotel—it’s a private house you can rent out entirely, and it’s right in the heart of the walled city. Think dramatic archways, high ceilings, and that classic Cartagena aesthetic—white walls, wood-beamed ceilings, leafy courtyards, and colorful tiles that make every photo look like a magazine spread.
It’s perfect for a group hang pre-wedding events: multiple bedrooms, tons of common areas, a rooftop with a dipping pool, and a ground-floor courtyard that can totally double as an event space. It’s especially great if you want your wedding to feel more like a house party than a ballroom affair.
There’s no on-site staff like a hotel, but the management company will help you arrange catering, bartenders, security, etc. It’s totally DIY in the best way—free rein to do what you want, without hotel rules getting in the way.
Capacity: Usually sleeps around 16–20 depending on layout, and can host 50–60 people for a party across the patio and rooftop
Average Nightly Rate: Around $1,500–2,500 for the whole property (varies based on season and length of stay)
Amenities: Rooftop pool, multiple terraces and lounges, inner courtyard, kitchen, daily cleaning included
Style and Ambiance: Restored colonial mansion meets laid-back luxury—lots of natural light, historic charm, and tropical glam touches
Reviews: 4.9 on Airbnb – guests love the location, the spacious layout, and how ideal it is for group stays or events
So Carmen doesn’t do weddings. But if you’re doing a whole weekend thing like I did, and you have the cash to flip the bill to host multiple events, I have to give my strong recommendation for Carmen. It’s been my top 2 favorite restaurants since I starting coming here in 2017 – because it’s one of the best dining experiences in the city.
There’s no dance floor or ceremony space, but it is a killer spot for rehearsal dinners, welcome cocktails, or any event where food and drinks are the main event. When I go I always get the tasting menu and sit at the bar so I can watch the cocktail magicians work, but if you do an event here you have 5 dining areas to choose from – all are gorgeous. It’s located in the heart of Cartagena’s historic center, and brings serious style with its tropical-modern interiors, moody lighting, and elegant but relaxed energy.
It’s ideal for intimate gatherings or full-on group dinners, with private space options that feel upscale but never stuffy. If you’re looking to impress your guests with Cartagena’s culinary scene, this is the move.
Capacity: Up to 100 people depending on layout, with private rooms for 20, 30, or 50
Average Event Rate: Here are the actual rates that they gave us in April 2025:
- Salon Principal- 50 people (distributed in several tables for 6 and 8 people) – privacy $15,000,000 COP ($3,850 USD)
- Patio – 30 people (distributed in 3 tables for 10 people) – privacy $10,000,000 COP ($2,565 USD)
- Don Diablo – 20 people (distributed in 2 tables for 10 people) – privacy $8,000,000 COP ($2,050 USD)
(Attach the photos of the spaces and corporate menus that they have for groups)
Amenities: Full food and beverage service, private event spaces, curated group menus, cocktail program, on-site staff
Style and Ambiance: Tropical-modern elegance with lush interiors, moody lighting, and refined Colombian flavor
Reviews: 4.5/5 on Google, based on 1,513 reviews – guests rave about the food, service, and stylish vibe
If you’re dreaming of a sexy rooftop moment in the heart of Cartagena’s Old City, Mar y Zielo brings the vibes. This stylish gastro bar isn’t a traditional wedding venue, but it’s another killer spot for pre-wedding events like welcome cocktails, rehearsal dinners, or even an intimate rooftop reception if you’re keeping things small and chic. The multilevel space includes a breezy rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the cathedral and Cartagena’s colonial skyline—basically, the kind of place that makes everyone pull out their phones for sunset selfies.
The food is modern Colombian with creative flair, and the cocktails are just as photogenic as the view. If you want your event to feel more like a glamorous night out than a formal sit-down, Mar y Zielo is absolutely worth checking out.
Mar y Zielo usually requires you to rent whole areas out – so get a good wedding planner that can negotiate if you want to do yours here.
Capacity: Best for 20–60 depending on setup; full buyout possible for larger events
Average Room Rate: The Main Lounge and VIP Lounge is $8.000.000 COP ($2,080 USD) just to rent (none of this goes toward food and drink), from 6:00 to 11:00 PM, plus a minimum consumption value of $25.000.000 COP ($6,490 USD). The rooftop is anothe rotation but has a maximum capacity for 40 people.
Event Types: Welcome dinners, cocktail receptions, intimate rooftop parties
Amenities: Rooftop terrace, full bar, in-house catering, panoramic views, AV options available
Style and Ambiance: Upscale rooftop meets Cartagena cool—romantic lighting, city views, and a tropical-modern aesthetic
Reviews: 4.7 on Google – guests love the views, cocktails, and vibrant energy
If you’re going to say “I do,” why not do it somewhere that feels like a movie set—with cobblestone streets, Caribbean breezes, candlelit colonial charm, and some of the best restaurants in the world? But Cartagena is more than just a pretty backdrop—it’s a destination where history, elegance, and celebration collide in the most cinematic way. From private colonial mansions tucked inside the walled city to breezy seaside estates on the Rosario Islands, the best wedding venues Cartagena has to offer turn dream ceremonies into reality.
If you’re planning a destination wedding with soul, style, and a little sparkle, this is where your forever begins. Cartagena is a destination that delivers on the drama and the romance. Whether you’re after a beachfront bash or a courtyard cocktail hour, the best wedding venues in Cartagena are as unforgettable as the love story you’re celebrating. Go big, go bold, go Cartagena.
Pro Tip: I highly recommend doing a reconnaissance trip before getting married in Colombia. It’s not like the US, where you can make a few phone calls and have everything in order. You have to go stay at the hotels and meet everyone face-to-face or because it’s very common for Colombians to ghost people. Honestly, it’s not a terrible thing to have to take a trip to Colombia to test out all the food, massage parlors, and hotels.
