The Haute Bøhemian is an independent travel and culture blog founded by Courtney Lynn Muro in San Francisco.
Launched in 2024, it blends long-form travel writing with practical guides, itineraries, and cultural commentary, with a focus on Colombia, New Orleans, and San Francisco. The goal is to help people experience places through food, drink, and unique events.
The Haute Bøhemian began as a solo project and has since grown into a trusted resource for travelers looking for both authenticity and practicality — whether that means breaking down the true cost of Oktoberfest in Munich, uncovering Medellín’s best restaurants, or offering candid takes on San Francisco neighborhoods. The blog continues to expand with destination guides, travel hacks, and multimedia storytelling.
Why I started this publication:
Although I only began this blog in 2024, I’ve lived out of luggage or a backpack in 60 countries for the past 10 years and have a lot of travel intel to share. It started as texts, then emails, then Google Docs. Then I was like, why don’t I just transfer these docs onto a website and add photos?

Where I’ve been
I’ve lived in four of the major Californian cities for 1/2 a decade, I backpacked through Southeast Asia for a year, working for Southeast Asia Backpacker Magazine as their main correspondent, and called Medellín, Colombia home for 3 years. I’m currently posted up in San Francisco working as a correspondent for Bay Area culture guide, The Bold Italic, and occasionally contributing to publications like Thrillist. All the meanwhile, I’m exploring every corner of the city, as if I were only here for the week.

What you’ll find here
This forum is a compilation of the info I’ve acquired on my travels, to be used as a quick-and-dirty guide during your planning process, so you can make better decisions and get places faster.
This guide is organized by continent, with an extra section for destination weddings. You’ll notice there is an emphasis on Colombian food and trip guides, California lifestyle, and unique European experiences.
Spoiler alert: I’m a big proponent of exploring the world through food & drink.

Who this guide is for
We’re going for luxe travel at affordable prices – with a focus on price transparency, because my first question when I read other travel blogs is: “how much did it cost?” I try to share my bill for everything and let you know which credit card points I used to get there. This includes my destination wedding in Cartagena, Colombia!

This is for people who don’t have a ton of money but want to learn where to focus it to get the optimal experience. And this is not for people who do all-inclusive resorts or mass-volume cruises because those models exploit the very cultures you’re going to visit and isolate you from actually meeting the people who live there, trying authentic food, spending money in the local economy, and experiencing anything outside of your comfort zone.

Please use this as your guide and me as your free travel agent – I respond to all comments and often end up helping plan other people’s trips.
Your next trip is just on the horizon.
